Tips to Prepare for Fall
As the summer nights grow shorter and the leaves begin to change colour, we can feel fall fast-approaching us. Between pump spice lattes and children heading back to school, we can start to feel excited to welcome in the new season. Crisp nights, hot chocolate, and flannel isn't the only thing you can look forward to; here are some few easy tips to help you transition your home into the cool and wonderful fall:
1. Preparing
Pour yourself a glass of wine (or desired beverage) and get ready to pack away summer. As sad as we are to see our sandals go into hibernation it is time to prepare for the new season. Its important to give your home a little love by giving it a thorough cleaning. It's not just for spring, anymore! We are talking, gutters, windows and all the stuff that has been neglected all summer long while you relaxed away in the warm sunshine. As annoying as it can be, this allows for a fresh start to the season.
2. Texture
There is nothing better than cozying up with a knit throw on cool fall day. Adding fur (can be faux!) or knit throws to your couch or somewhere easy to reach is a quick way to warm up your space. Swapping out summer prints for warmer tones through slip covers is also a great way to transition your home into the chillier fall season. Adding materials such as wools, tweed, velvet and other soft fabrics you love helps add warmth and interest into any room. Last, but not least, don’t be afraid to layer your textures by integrating various materials, colours, and patterns.
3. Natural Elements
An affordable way to spruce up your home this season is to bring the outdoors inside! Think pumpkins, sunflowers, and pinecones. Fall is the best time to get crafty, whether it be through spray painting pumpkins or making a wreath with all those pinecones your trees are dropping, the possibilities are endless. Use your own yard as the source of inspiration.
4. Atmosphere
Creating a warm and inviting atmosphere in your home is essential, as with the fall season come less daylight hours. It is important to maximize the light we are receiving as no one wants to sit in a dark home all day and night! Adding various layers of light in your home can help create a more comfortable environment, especially as we roll right into winter. This can be done by adding floor lamps, table lamps, and candles in addition to your current fixtures. Switching out cooler blue toned light bulbs with warm white or soft white hues can help add the warmth we always crave. Stop by a hardware or lighting store and check out the latest LED light bulbs - they've gone down in price, we promise!
